P6/7 workshop with Irish Artist Brian Ballard

Our P3-P7 children have been studying the works of renowned Northern Irish artist Brian Ballard over the last few months. Each child has created a painting from one of his collection and these are beautifully displayed throughout the school.
Our P/7 children will be attending a special workshop in the Roe Valley Arts and Culture Centre on Tuedsay 14th April 2015. They will experience a fantastic opportunity to be taught the skills of ‘portrait drawing’ by Brian Ballard himself.

An exhibition of his life works over the last 50 years are on display at present in the RVACC.

Award-winning Author Guy Bass Visits School

Blue Peter Award-winning author Guy Bass visited St. Matthew’s P.S on Tuesday 24th March to talk to our P5 – P7 pupils about The Mighty Frog, the third title in his series, The Legend of Frog.
Guy Bass is an award-winning children’s book author and semi-professional geek. His book series include Stitch Head, The
Legend of Frog, Dinkin Dings, Atomic and Monster Madness / Monster Mayhem. First published in 2008, Guy’s books have been translated into more than ten languages.
A mash-up of fairy tale, fantasy and science fiction with a heavy helping of humour, stories and rap, Guy had everyone involved howling with laughter.
Both author and children swapped stories of favourite books and childhood memories, finishing with question time and book signings.
A big thank you to Guy from us all for a wonderful morning!
